  • The Beard Group Offers Efficient In-House Model

    Posted by Daniel Edelman on

With an “in-house” model that leaves clients impressed and happy, this full-service Cleveland remodeling firm looks at every project as a blank canvas and takes serious pride in what they do.

Brothers Chris and Jason Beard weren’t always managing 16 full-time employees like they are now—they started by doing handyman work for two years before transitioning into The Beard Group in 2004. Today, they have a combined office and shop space in Beachwood where they handle remodeling projects, repairs, and handyman services. In addition to the ownership team, the firm employs a production manager, licensed plumber, licensed electrician, three carpenters, three painters, a tile-setter, several general contractors, and an in-house designer.

    The "In-House" Business Model

The Beard Group didn’t stumble upon this business model by accident. “In doing market research, we educated ourselves on what homeowners didn’t like about remodeling and working with contractors. We feel the “in-house” model gives us greater control over quality and consistency”, Jason Beard shared. Having their staff under one roof allows them to be flexible and responsive as projects evolve, and a trade professional is never more than few blocks away if small problems arise during construction.

    The Beard Group's Design Process

Designer, Claire Barilla, explained The Beard Group’s planning and design process. “We learn how the client uses the space, what currently works, what needs improvement and what their dream space would be like—all while keeping their budget in mind and their expectations realistic,” Claire says.  “Each client is different, so no two spaces we design and construct are alike. Once we have a layout, we start planning for cabinetry, appliances, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, etc. Although most of the design process is completed by the time demo begins, design is ongoing and continues throughout the entire project”.

    Benefits of Partnering with Edelman

Clients of The Beard Group visit Edelman’s showrooms to select plumbing products prior to construction. Beard speaks highly of their experience partnering with Edelman and appreciates the consultative approach their clients receive. “The level of knowledge and resourcefulness offered by the staff adds value to our model,” says Jason. “We also have great confidence working with Edelman knowing that if something goes wrong with a product, the Edelman team will work with the manufacturer to a client-friendly resolution”.

The Client's Reaction is the Biggest Reward

Jason says what they love most about the industry is the opportunity to help their clients achieve their dreams. “Remodeling someone’s home is a huge responsibility,” he says. “To transform their living space transforms their lives, and we embrace the opportunity to offer such an important service.”

The Beard Group won the Angie’s List “Super Service Award” 4 years in a row (2010-2013), and the Cleveland Restoration Society’s “Remodeler of the Year” Award for a project on Shelburne Road in Cleveland Heights. Beard says that while these awards are valued, "they pale in comparison to the sense of accomplishment felt when they see the smile on the faces of client families as they move into their new space”.
