  • Discover the Design Team Behind These Unforgettable Spaces

    Posted by Daniel Edelman on

W Design Interiors has a mission to create spaces with a timeless, elegant design to reflect each of their clients’ unique personalities and style. Principal Wendy Berry and her team of designers know that people want to enjoy their home as an experience, and they are fully committed to exceeding expectations.

The firm’s flagship studio has offices and a boutique storefront nestled on the quaint Main Street in downtown Chagrin Falls, OH but also designs projects across the country and around the world.  We had the pleasure of chatting with W Design to learn more about their firm and what sets them apart in the design industry.

Edelman: What styles of design do you find yourselves working with most lately?

W Design: Our designs are as individual as our clients. Overall, they desire a lighter, more clean and crisp aesthetic than in the past. Simpler lines with amazing, hand applied finishes have replaced ornate carvings. High quality, extremely comfortable upholstery with well-scaled proportions is in constant demand.

E: Can you tell us about your team?

W: W Design is a collaborative group of passionate individuals who work tirelessly to achieve a seamless, enjoyable process for our clients. Our designers, project managers, accounting staff, procurement specialists and administrative professionals are committed to fully investing in our client’s needs as we apply our creativity to ensure we exceed their vision and expectations.

E: What services do you offer?

W: W Design is a full service Interior Design firm. We focus on providing clients with a design that reflects their lifestyle and aesthetic, whether traditional, transitional, modern or an eclectic blend. We combine a mix of classic elements that incorporate art and objects to balance a living space and bring timeless comfort and elegance.

E: What is the design process like with your clients? Where do you begin and how long does it usually take?

W: We are a fast paced firm. The timeframe depends completely on the scale of the project and scope of work involved. Our specialized team works together to provide the capabilities of a large firm with the personalized service our clients deserve. Some larger projects span years to complete while others are only a couple months.

E: What do you find to be the most important part of a large design project?

W: Communication and coordination are paramount. Each client is assigned a Project Manager who meticulously supervises design implementation and continues momentum. We provide weekly updates to our clients and keep an open line of communication at all times between both the client and trades.

E: What plumbing products are you and your clients loving right now?

W: Touchless products in the kitchen and bath are technological advances we are looking forward to witnessing evolve. Only a couple styles exist with these features currently, but they are in demand.

E: What do you do as a team to stay inspired?

W: We share. Weekly meetings and meals with discussions on dilemmas and advances teach us all. We also love Pinterest, Houzz.com and shelter magazines.

E: Do you have any advice for homeowners on how to find the right designer?

W: Design is a personalized process. A referral from someone you trust is an excellent way of finding a professional. Houzz.com is also a wealth of knowledge for both design inspiration and finding a firm you feel comfortable working and communicating with.

E: What can you tell us about your experience working with Edelman?

W: Anna (Sales Manager) is extremely knowledgeable and acts as a liaison between our designers who specify the products and the trades who are in the field installing them. Contractors enjoy working with her. If we have a specific need, we know Anna will work tirelessly until our needs are met and the project is installed.

E: What sets your firm apart in the design industry?

W: Our team is highly specialized and experienced. We have solid relationships with many trades and manufacturers both local [to Cleveland] and afar. We are experienced with accommodating diverse design aesthetics and also design custom furnishings.

E: What trends are you seeing in the interior design industry right now?

W: Classic, clean lines and finishes are in demand when specifying fixtures in general. Spa-like bathrooms and gourmet kitchen renovations are a popular request as more people renovate their homes rather than building new. The Green movement has also had an effect on environmentally conscious material selections and specifications including low-flow fixtures to save water and energy.

E: What are your favorite types of projects to work on?

W: We enjoy designing projects from inception to fruition, including the interior architectural design. When a space can be designed with its desired function in mind, architectural detailing such as custom built-ins, division of space through architectural details to maintain flow while separating spaces can be considered before furnishings are even selected. This makes for a cohesive design that embodies the client’s aesthetic as well as their lifestyle, which is immensely impactful.
